Learning through Playing
At New Horizon Nursery School playing is not forbidden. Actually, we encourage playing and creativity in our classrooms. In many schools in Uganda the way to teach children is through rote learning or heavy repetition, while the creative child of a child is left untouched.
Our Nursery School is equipped with a vast arrangement of educational tools like flash cards, games and puzzles with letters, numbers and short words. Lots of these materials have been developed by our own teachers. Each class has a play corner with dolls and puppets, a kitchen, cars and building blocks. Classrooms are decorated with art made by the children, even if it wasn't done perfectly. We want to show that we are proud of the development our children and want to stimulate all the children to continue their progress.
